Title
Dickinson Gar Rodeo 1950-60s- Magliolo Family Files
Description
The Gar Rodeo was one of Dickinson's most distinctive community wide events. Organized by a group of young people calling themselves the Jaycee's and the Jaycette's, the Gar Rodeo featured fishing contests, parades, live music, beauty contests, games, and prizes. The Gar Rodeo would take place on the Dickinson Bayou. In the night time gar fishing contest, competitors would try to win the boat and motor as the biggest prize, while daytime competitors attempted to win prizes for other species of fish.
